The Weight Doctors® Nationalklinik is located in Wertheim in the Main-Tauber district, conveniently placed on the A3 – with parking directly on the hospital grounds and a direct bus connection from the railway station.
Wertheim is a good ten kilometres from the A3 between Frankfurt am Main and Würzburg. From Würzburg and from Aschaffenburg it takes you about 45 minutes, from Tauberbischofsheim or Miltenberg about half an hour. You do not need to travel for the initial consultation: it is also possible by phone or by video.

For operations (gastric sleeve, gastric bypass) and the Weight Doctors SLEEVE®, there is a chance of cost coverage by German statutory health insurance where there is a medical indication in line with the guidelines. Typical prerequisites: BMI ≥ 40 or BMI ≥ 35 with related conditions, documented unsuccessful previous treatments and a guideline-based approach. Cost coverage is also possible for Weight Doctors® RESHAPE and REVISION where indicated. For stomach reduction and REVISION there is no advance application: before the procedure we check all requirements, and billing takes place directly afterwards. For RESHAPE, we take care of the application completely.

For privately insured patients, we clarify the confirmation of cost coverage in advance. Self-payers receive a transparent offer in the consultation; financing through medipay is possible (subject to creditworthiness: main residence in Germany, no negative Schufa entries, regular income – otherwise with a second borrower). You determine the term yourself.
Follow the A3 towards Würzburg/Munich. Leave the motorway at Wertheim/Marktheidenfeld and turn right towards Kreuzwertheim/Wertheim. After approx. 8 km, continue over the large roundabout and the Spessartbrücke to Wertheim. Follow the signs for “Krankenhaus” – the Nationalklinik is at Rotkreuzstraße 2. Parking is available at the roadside and on the hospital grounds, for low fees.
By train & public transport
From Wertheim station or the central bus station (ZOB), take bus line 975, which departs directly from the station forecourt. The journey takes approx. 13 minutes – the bus stops right in front of the hospital.
From Frankfurt Airport (FRA)
Wertheim is around 95 kilometres south-east of Frankfurt/Main Airport on the A3 – a good hour by car, longer depending on traffic. If you hire a car, follow the A3 towards Würzburg to the Wertheim/Marktheidenfeld exit. How do I get to Wertheim as a patient from another region?
From Frankfurt Airport (FRA) it is around 95 kilometres via the A3, a good hour by car. On request, we arrange a shuttle service from Frankfurt Airport directly to the hospital (for an additional charge). By train, travel to Wertheim and take bus line 975 directly to the hospital.
How far is the Nationalklinik from Würzburg, Aschaffenburg and the Main-Tauber district?
From Würzburg city centre it is around 45 kilometres, from Aschaffenburg around 55 kilometres. Both routes run via the A3 and take about 45 minutes without traffic jams. From Tauberbischofsheim you reach Wertheim in about half an hour, from Bad Mergentheim in about 50 minutes. Parking is available directly on the hospital grounds.
Do I always have to come to Wertheim for preparation and aftercare?
Not necessarily. If German statutory health insurance covers the operation, the procedure takes place at the Nationalklinik Wertheim. Preparation and aftercare are possible here or at a Weight Doctors® location near you – from the Rhine-Main region, for example, at our obesity centre Frankfurt. Good to know: during preparation, statutory health insurance only covers the medical information session – the MMK programme, the private medical pre- and post-treatment examinations and specialist pre- and aftercare are self-pay services.
Which treatments take place at the Nationalklinik?
All of them: gastric sleeve and gastric bypass (inpatient), the Weight Doctors SLEEVE® with pose® 3.0 Double Helix or OverStitch NXT™, gastric balloon, hydroGMA, GLP-1 therapy, RESHAPE body shaping and revision procedures. Wertheim is the only location with the complete range.
Does German statutory health insurance cover the costs?

For stomach reduction and REVISION there is no advance application – billing takes place directly after the procedure; for RESHAPE, we take care of the application completely. How long does the inpatient stay last?
For bariatric operations (gastric sleeve, gastric bypass), as a rule 1–3 nights. Endo sleeve and gastric balloon are usually carried out as an outpatient; monitoring at the hospital is possible if needed.
What does the MMK programme in Wertheim include?
The multimodal programme comprises 5 pillars: nutritional counselling (5 sessions), exercise log, psychological assessment, gastroscopy and full blood count. At the Nationalklinik, all appointments are coordinated on site – you do not have to take care of anything.
